At the tender age of 16, he started his career with the Jungadler Mannheim – and progressed very rapidly to the top. He collected more than 20 awards in recent years. Since 2019, he has been under contract with the historic Detroit Red Wings, where he is part of the 2021/2022 squad and makes positive headlines almost every day. It is hardly surprising that not only his teammates but also the NHL (National Hockey League) itself is deeply impressed with Moritz and sees a bright future for him. His outstanding 50 scorer points is a mark that only four other rookie players have ever reached before him since 1990. He recently became the first German to be named Rookie of the Year, earning the Calder Trophy for his strong performance in his debut season with the Detroit Red Wings.
