SECURE ONLINE BACKUP

BTA Secure Online Backup is a secure, automated data backup and retrieval solution that intelligently and securely backups and stores critical data via the Internet, from a user's computer (whether it is a server, desktop or laptop) to fully mirrored, offsite data storage platforms in separate locations, ensuring that your valuable data is safe, secure and is available anytime, anywhere.

TECHNICAL OVERVIEW

BTA Secure Online Backup is flexible and can be used across a variety of platforms—including Windows XP/Vista/2003 and Mac OS X—and is fully scalable giving users freedom to access and recover data from anywhere in the world. Furthermore, because only incremental data is backed up online, it's up to 98% faster than traditional tape backup systems.

BTA Online Backup is a combination of state-of-the-art server and network storage infrastructure provided by IBM Continuity Services combined with the highly secure and user friendly Backup Professional software from Attix5. The Attix5 software provides the tools to manage the backup and retrieval of data.

Data security and privacy are paramount in the construction of the software feature set. Attix5 Backup Professional makes use of the SSL (Secure Socket Layer) protocol standard for secure communication between the Backup Clients and the Storage Platform, including data transmission (1024 bit RSA key exchange, 128 bit RC4 stream cipher and SHA-1 integrity checking). Data is stored using 448-bit Blowfish encryption in CBC mode on the Storage Platform. Backup account encryption keys are not stored with the data and globally recognised techniques are applied to ensure the integrity and security of all data protected with Backup Professional. Access to a user's stored data is via a user name, password and an encryption key known only to the user.

BTA Online Backup minimises risk, maximises productivity and allows the user to automatically back up files and documents and retrieve them across the Internet. The service is highly secure, scalable and an efficient solution. Data held on PCs, laptops or servers, plus running server applications such as Exchange and SQL, can be easily and securely backed up.

DESKTOPS & LAPTOPS

The BTA Secure Online Backup Desktop and Laptop (D&L) Edition is for individual single-user backups and is available for Windows 2000/XP/Vista and for Mac OS X.

SERVER EDITION

BTA Secure Online Backup Server Edition (SE) provides support for Microsoft Windows Server 2000/2003 and Mac OS X Server. The Server Edition runs as a service, thus operating as a background application which provides a secure, and fully automated server backup solution. The Windows Server Edition has open-file plugins available for: Microsoft Exchange (5.5, 2000 and 2003), includng Single Mailbox Recovery (SMR); Microsoft SQL Server (2000 and 7); Oracle (8i and 9); Sybase ASE (12.5); Novell Groupwise (6); and Lotus Domino (5 and 6.5).

WEB ACCESS

The web access interface allows a user to access backed up files through any Internet connected computer anywhere in the world, at any time. Web access allows files that have already been backed up to be downloaded, viewed or e-mailed and is perfect for those users who are out of the office and need to have 24/7 access to backed up files. For files that have been amended or newly created, these can be uploaded to the online briefcase for later retrieval.

INITIAL SNAPSHOT SERVICE

For those sites with a large amount of existing data, such as file or email servers, our Initial Snapshot service helps speed up the initial backup without clogging up your Internet connection—we will come to your site with a portable backup server, backup your current data, transport it securely to the storage data centre, and then load it directly into an initial backup 'snapshot' on the storage platform. From this point your daily backups continue incrementally, just uploading the changes to files and data.
